Open Source in China

Open Source Software or OSS is rapidly growing and adapted broadly in various industries in China such as government, finance, energy sectors and education. Linux and OSS provide a golden opportunity to develop this country into a global software powerhouse. With increased freedom to select between various vendors and technologies, both the Chinese government and corporations stand to benefit from a more active role in OSS, and that problems in the past caused by vendor lock in can be layed to rest.

Large organisations like Novell, Intel, IBM and HP have already started adopting open source solutions as a basis for their own platforms, or as a cost saving measure to remain competitive.
